St John the Baptist Catholic School

This space nestled beneath a shady White Cedar may seem quiet in these photos, but on any given school day it is a thriving metropolis of excitement and play.

The growing school community craved a facelift to their well loved playspace and we were tasked to create a low maintenance and vibrant space for the busy school.

What we delivered was a locally made, easy to maintain steel play tower, climbing net, kitchen garden and cubby area.

We still love timber, but we also loved working with steel. The convenience, practicality and longevity of a steel frame is hard to ignore but with the warmth of timber cladding, the contrast is quite aesthetic. ...

At the beginning of the year, we had the opportunity to return to Seymour College and complete Stage 2 for the Upper Primary School.

Staging a plan facilitates budgeting and causes less interruption on site. However it is important to ensure the stages don`t conflict, we don’t step on our toes of yesterday and the design integrates and maintains a genuine connection.

Stage 1 is nestled beneath the olive grove for quieter, imaginative playwork, while Stage 2 is big and bold, activates the upper body and allows for risk without interrupting the quieter play.

This Playspace continues to be a steady work in progress and in a few months time, we will see the final stage come to tower above them all…Stay tuned….🛝

This one has it all! From natural play elements and picnic shelters to lush turf, paving, seating and festoon lighting…who doesn’t love festoon lighting! We`re proud to have helped bring this incredible community space to life.

Design and Construction

Colour in the landscape sparks playfulness and joy. It can even bring out the child in us grown ups!

Sometimes we are a bit scared by colour. But with thoughtful design, colour can blend into or complement our natural world. Think of the Rainbow Lorikeet! 🦜

In this project at @walfordschool and in collaboration with @matthews.architects the students wanted a playspace that weaved and connected the wonders of Alice in Wonderland.

And it was through the thoughtful use of colour that we were able to achieve this.

We had a lot of fun with this one!

Euca, Modbury

Design and Construction

Back in 2023, we were engaged by @kolabb.developer and builder @centinagroup to design and construct this previously under-utilised reserve in Tea Tree Gully.

For decades this space has been little more than an open field of unkempt grass used as a thoroughfare from one road to the next.

But with the key support of @cityofteatreegully, the development of 25 new townhouses by @kolabb.developer and @centinagroup, and the design support of @foxavenuestudio it has now been transformed into a vibrant community space suitable for the new owners, local community and through traffic.

Now with a grassed kick-about space, incidental low brick wall seating and a shelter for small gatherings, communities can gather.

The playground supplied by @moduplay_group with it`s timber frame, blends in with the nearby creek and towering Eucalypts and is suitable to a range of age groups.

In time the new landscaping will provide habitat, shade and cooling to the area.

This project was staged over a number of years (longer in the planning!) but has clearly made this space more purposeful and functional than its predecessor.
